Many of you have already met Dr. Starfinder Stanley.  He has been a regularly scheduled consulting veterinarian at Balboa Pet Hospital since 2008.  He practices what is known as “Integrative Medicine,” which combines high-quality ‘standard’ Western Veterinary Medicine with Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).  Did you also know that he has an interest and personal experience with Exotic Animal Medicine?

Dr. Stanley was born in northern California, and received my B.S. in Natural Resources and Wildlife Science in 1992 at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and my V.M.D. in Mixed Animal Medicine in 1997 at The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. He completed the Veterinary Acupuncture coursework at the Chi Institute in Ocala, FL, in 2007.  He and his wife Audrey have two beautiful children. Dr. Stanley can be found at Balboa Pet Hospital most Mondays as well as some Saturdays.  If you are interested in learning more about a holistic approach, give us a call and make an appointment.

“My personal collection of exotic pets has afforded me many years of hands-on experience with a wide variety of animals. Beyond being the basis for the educational reptile shows I produced while in college, it proved an invaluable resource in the development of my veterinary skills relating to non-traditional pets. Over the years, I learned how most appropriately to handle and to care for these animals, and accumulated first hand experience with their most common ailments. Daily intimate interactions lent me a more thorough appreciation for “normal,” and I believe that personally grappling with many of the common problems encountered by collectors left me more able to help clients steer clear of avoidable pitfalls.”
