Paul D. Clary, III, D.V.M., and Alice K. Clary

Owners of Balboa Pet Hospital in San Francisco since 1966

Dr. Clary began practicing veterinary medicine since 1963. He and his wife, Alice, purchased the practice in 1966. They worked together to establish a well known and respected veterinary practice with a family atmosphere that is welcoming to clients. Their four children and some of their 16 grandchildren have worked at Balboa Pet Hospital over the years. Before Dr. Clary died in 2011, he and Alice had laid the groundwork for his legacy of service to live on. The Clary Family had many pets over the years. Sadly, their dog Fathom passed away within a month of Dr. Clary's death. Their cat "Pete", who Dr. Clary called "the most beautiful cat in the world", still lives with Alice, keeping her company when she is not at the Pet Hospital. Alice remains active as  Practice Manager and Owner.

Lea M. Del Rosso, D.V.M.

Dr. Del Rosso came to Balboa Pet Hospital in June 1995 after earning her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University. She has been serving the pets and clients here for over fifteen years as a general practitioner with special interest and expertise in internal medicine.  A native Californian, Dr. Del Rosso was born in San Francisco and grew up on the peninsula in nearby Burlingame, the same area where she lives today. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of California at Davis. Dr. Del Rosso is on the Board of Advisors for the SF Aid for Animals, an all-volunteer organization whose mission is to make urgent life-saving veterinary care affordable. The organization provides local veterinarians with grants, enabling Bay Area residents to be able to provide affordable medical care to their pets.

Asked why she became a veterinarian, Dr. Del Rosso says, "I think my favorite thing about being a vet is that no two days are ever alike. I see puppies and aging dogs; kittens and ancient cats; healthy animals who need routine exams and sick or dying animals who need relief for their suffering. We practice medicine, dentistry and surgery. So I never get tired of what I'm doing."

She and her husband are kept busy with a son who loves to swim, ski, and play baseball. They share their home with a beautiful cat named "Mango" and a Spinone Italiano dog named "Vita". When she's not working, Dr. Del Rosso enjoys gardening and cooking, and spending time with her family. During baseball season, she can often be found taking in a San Francisco Giants game soon!

Emilie Ravn, D.V.M.

Dr Ravn grew up in both the United States and Norway. Her main interests in life have been animals and sports, and Dr Ravn knew from an early age she wanted to become a veterinarian. She completed her first degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in Animal Science, while representing the university by playing 4 years of division 1 NCAA basketball. She has also competed internationally representing Norway's national basketball team, and played competitively in Europe.

Dr Ravn attended veterinary school in the UK at the University of Bristol, where she completed her degree in 2013.  She remained in the UK for 2 years working in Cardiff, Wales as small animal veterinarian. Within veterinary field, Dr Ravn is most interested in internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and patient care. She has a special dog in her life: Mia – a Lab x Jack Russel Terrier mix who is the most gentle and kind dog on the planet.

Alice Chan, D.V.M.

Dr. Chan, a native San Franciscan, graduated from The University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine with a focus in companion and exotic animals.  Since the beginning of her veterinary career, she has treated a multitude of species such as birds, reptiles, amphibians and pocket pets. Prior to joining the Balboa Pet Hospital family, Dr. Chan was a general practitioner and a relief veterinarian for several hospitals in the Bay Area and is excited for the opportunity to serve the community in her hometown.
During her free time, Dr. Chan has volunteered at non-profit organizations such as the San Francisco SPCA, PAWS (Pets are Wonderful Support), VetSOS (Veterinary Street Outreach Services), and a wildlife rehabilitation center.  She enjoys training her parents’ birds to sing Christmas jingles, volunteers to perform spay and neuter procedures on adoptable exotic small mammals at a local veterinary technician school, and ventures around the city in search of the perfect boba milk tea.  When she’s not exploring the Bay Area’s vibrant community, Dr. Chan enjoys traveling to far away places to learn about different cultures and cuisines.

Whether your companion has four, two, or even no legs (snakes!), Dr. Chan would love to meet them.
